Is seaweed film waterproof or hydrophobic?
+
Seaweed-based does not automatically mean water-repellent. Many seaweed-derived polymers are hydrophilic: they attract moisture. A surface that repels droplets can still transmit water vapour or lose strength during prolonged wet contact. Review those properties separately for the selected formulation and package.
Link to this questionCan water resistance be improved?
+
Hydrophobic components, additional layers or crosslinking can improve resistance in selected formulations. Any change needs to be assessed for oxygen and grease barriers, flexibility, sealing, food contact and end of life. A wax topcoat is a possible development route, not a confirmed feature of the listed films.
Link to this questionIs seaweed paper the same as coated kraft paper?
+
No. Seaweed paper incorporates seaweed fibres into a paper material. Coated kraft paper uses a kraft-paper substrate with a seaweed-based coating. Seaweed paper is not currently commercially available; coated kraft paper is evaluated as a separate offer.
Link to this questionWhich formats can I discuss for a packaging project?
+
Coating formulations, ready-coated kraft paper sheets and flexible films can be assessed against your packaging requirements. Seaweed paper and bioplastic pellets are development-stage enquiries, with sample availability to be confirmed.
Link to this questionAre all seaweed-based materials compostable or suitable for food contact?
+
These characteristics require evidence for the selected formulation and intended use. For food contact, review the relevant documents against the package, contents and contact conditions. Compostability must be assessed for the finished material and intended disposal route.
Link to this questionWhat quantities and specifications should I provide?
+
Tell us the required format, substrate or converting process, package dimensions, barrier and sealing requirements, estimated volume, target market and delivery location. Ordering conditions differ between coating material, coated sheets, film and finished packaging.
